Integrate audio

If you have an audio file that you would like to import in an exercise, then please follow these steps:

If you want to use an mp3 file in a Hot Potatoes exercise, then do remember that you put it in the same directory as the actual Hot Potatoes file.

Adjust text

  • Launch JQuiz and either open an existing exercise or create a new one. In this case we are opening an existing exercise in which we were already using an accompanying reading text.
  • Press CTRL-R to read the text that is used in the this exercise. Rather than presenting the full text to the students you remove some paragraphs, so that they can only hear about those missing paragraphs in the mp3 file that you will add to the exercise.

Adding audio files

  • Place your cursor in the question text box.
  • Add a link to the mp3 file via Insert > Link  > Link to local file.

  • Navigate to your mp3-file.
  • In the dialog box enter link text, such as for example First listen to this text and then confirm everything via Ok.

  • You will now see codes in the text box. Enter the rest of the question after the</a> tag, e.g. Indicate those statements which you think are covered solely in the audio (so not in the written text!). Of course you would also need to adjust the alternative answers.

Save and export

  • Save the exercise and view it in the browser via F6.
  • The text First listen to this text has now become a link; if you click on it, it will launch the mediaplayer that on that particular computer is associated with mp3-files: on some computers it will be Windows Media Player, on others it may be Quicktime, Winamp, or yet other software. Check if everything works just fine and, if so, export everything via F7 in a ZIP-file.
